In order to complete this task you will need to conduct a variety of different types of research looking at your chosen artist, production companies, record labels and at your audience. This research should inform your planning for your pack.
Task 1: Music Video Research
For this task you will produce:
} An analysis of 3-5 music videos
o Explore camera angles, mise-en-scene, lighting, shot distances, etc.
o What are the conventions found in this music video?
o How is the band/artist being represented? (Denotation and connotation)
o Who is the audience for this video?
o What genre is this music video? How is this shown?
o What features of the shots you have chosen to explore will you use/not use in your own video?
Task 2: Music Video Directors
For this task you will produce:
} A profile of 2-3 significant music video directors and their most famous/intriguing videos.

have they been in the industry?

What genre
do they tend to stick to?

Do they work
exclusively (or often) with a specific artist?

What are
their signature styles?

Are there any
particular shots that you found interesting?
Task 3: Initial Ideas
For this task you will produce:
} A mood board of your initial ideas including:
o Artists you are considering using
o Your inspirations
Task 4: Written Consideration of Artists and Tracks
For this task you should include:
o Some background on the artist
o What record label are they on?
o Information about the chosen songs (What they are about, what the music video shows, etc.)
Task 5: Reasoning for Chosen Artist
Once you have decided your artist and track:
} Discuss and explain why you have made your specific choice.
o Consider tempo and beat
o Lyrics and message
Task 6: Record Label and Production Company
For this task you will need to produce:
} A profile of the record label and production company who has produced your chosen track.
o How long have they been in the industry?
o How much of your chosen artist have they worked on?
o Who else belongs to the record label?
o Who else does the production company handle?
